Christmas Collection with Octave Marsal

Octave Marsal, a little genius with a pencil, produces virtuoso drawings in which periods and subjects are intertwined and superimposed. French draughtsman born in 1990. In 2017 he graduated from the Royal College of Art (London, UK), Master of Art. In 2014 he graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design (London), BA(Hons) Fine Art - 2D. He has collaborated with Hermès and Universal Music/Bob Marley.

The proliferation of architectural elements and details calls for a close-up view and could incite the viewer to experience a meditative journey. The viewer's body is thus questioned in its perceptive dimension, plunging it into a state of instability and slight vertigo.

"I was struck by Pierre Hermé's approach to taste, which he expresses through drawing. I found an analogy with the pensiero, the first draft of the soul, which gives birth to the drawing. For this one, I started with the light of a street lamp and then the monuments gradually came to be inscribed all around. I have always been very inspired by engraving from the Renaissance to the 18th century."

"I like the idea of sketching by hand because the gesture and the pressure on the paper give the representation a feeling of vibration. Changing the proportion of objects, imagining improbable but recognisable places is my utopian representation of architecture, a way of interpreting it, of dreaming it. My drawings, in which I try to be extremely precise, call for a close-up view to draw the viewer into a dreamlike world."

"Lumières de Paris" Collection

Paris is the City of Light but also of many lights. Pierre Hermé has partnered with artist Octave Marsal to reimagine this city that is so dear to him. The city that is so sensuous, so charming, so luminous, and so magnetic, the drawing is shaped by Octave’s delicate, precise, elegant, and sometimes theatrical penmanship, giving an almost palpable sensuality to the city.
